On 6th May 2026, the faculty, students, and staff of the Centre of Excellence in Gender Studies and the School of Sociology convened a joint assembly in response to the incident of 30th April 2026, during which a group of students attempted to forcibly shut down the departments through acts of violence.
A large number of students attended the gathering to express solidarity with the Director of the School of Sociology, Dr. Sadia Saeed, who stood firm in opposing these actions and urged that no form of violence be used to disrupt the functioning of the departments.
During the assembly, the Directors of the Centre of Excellence in Gender Studies and the School of Sociology reaffirmed the students that in all cases both the departments are committed to protect students’ right to expression. At the same time, they emphasized that under no circumstances will acts of violence be tolerated or permitted as a means to disrupt academic activities.
